The G.O.P. was the last song written on my first album, Hang Loose. I felt the album needed a song I could use as my calling card telling the story of who I am and how I packed up my game in 2018 and headed out east, leaving my homeland of Southern California to permanently move to North Palm Beach, Florida.

HANG LOOSE, By The G.O.P. (Guru of Peace)

Hang Loose was the first song I wrote for the Hang Loose album and actually the first song I had every written in my life. It was recorded at a small recording studio in West Palm Beach, Florida. Soon after this song was written and mixed, I built my own recording and filming studio (Hippie Hut Studios) in North Palm Beach, Florida, two blocks from my home on the water.

I was deeply inspired to write Hang Loose, because I flash the Hang Loose sign everywhere I go and also encourage everyone I meet to Hang Loose.

My daughter, Andreana, sings back-up vocals with me on the album, You can hear her voice shadow my voice when I sing the lines, Hang Loose, hang loose…

FREEDOM, By The G.O.P.

After dealing with the pandemic for two years, I felt strongly compelled to write the song Freedom, to remind Americans our Constitutional freedom of choice and freedom of speech were both being abuse and ignored by our own government. We the People are in charge of keeping our government in check, not the other way around. That’s why our forefathers, wrote the Constitution of the United States.

Who Am I? 

By The Guru of Peace

In 1981, after three years of meditating 20-30 minutes daily, I awakened from delusion. Some call this nirvana. Others call it satori. Most would call it enlightenment. In my song, Who am I, I describe what it was like to begin meditating and what it was like to awaken. 

I used a koan, which is a simple question or phrase (similar to a mantra), that is used in Zen Buddhism and is designed to help your mind become completely still (free of thought). The koan I used was the question “Who am I,” that I repeated over and over in my mind.

Another koan I sometimes used, “What is the sound of one hand clapping.”

When thoughts are no more, your true nature (true self) is realized.
