Are You Happy?
Are You Happy?
There comes a point in everyone’s life where they realize something is wrong. You may be at that point. I was at that point three decades ago. I was experiencing success in many areas of my life, yet I was not happy. I also was in a mental place where I felt out of control. I had developed a carbohydrate addiction that was silently controlling my life. I was living for my next meal or treat. I wallowed in pleasure and avoided pain.
Feeling deep sadness, one day I decided to meditate. I had attempted meditation a few times in college, but with no success. Back then, it was as if my mind would not slow down. But this time, I was serious because I longed for peace of mind.
So I sat cross-legged on the floor of my living room, closed my eyes, and sat for 15 minutes. The first five minutes seemed like an eternity, but I stuck it out. It felt like I was facing myself for the first time. It was very uncomfortable as my mind danced about as if it did not want me to be in charge of it. About the 10-minute mark, something magical happened. By the time I had sat there for the full 15 minutes, my mind was actually quiet for the first time in my life and I fell in love with one of the most underestimated and misunderstood arts in the world. You might say, it was love at first insight.

Long story short, meditation has been a part of my daily life since that first day I took the plunge into the mental unknown. It wasn’t long after that memorable begining that my insights deepened and life started to be seen with unusual clarity. Then, one day I was sitting quietly and you might say, “I saw the light.” Actually, it felt more like Jay Robb fell into a black hole and disappeared, but seeing the light sounds more poetic! What’s important is that my whole life changed from that moment forward. It was like my previous self had been erased and “Mr. Nobody” was born.
Up to that point, my life was about becoming “Mr. Somebody,” which created the hollow, emptiness I felt in my daily life. With my pride out the window, life unfolded day by day as I looked on in amazement. I could see clearly, including my faults and the faults of others. But instead of being agitated by this, I was compassionate. If what I write intrigues you, try meditation today and join me on this beautiful journey through life. You may also wish to get a copy of my book, BE STILL BE FREE, which tells more about my journey within. Namaste.
